Domestic Violence Advocate

Gateway is seeking a full time (40 hours per week) domestic violence advocate.

 

Job Description: The advocate will serve as a case manager for survivors of domestic violence. The advocate will work closely with survivors to develop safety plans, provide emotional support, set goals, and identify community resources to achieve goals. The advocate will also answer crisis hotline calls and provide transportation for survivors. Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or four years or professional human services work experience. Values that align with Gateway’s mission. Able to pass Gateway’s rigorous background check process. Gateway will give special consideration to candidates who meet the minimum requirements and are bilingual (fluent in English and Spanish) or those who have more extensive experience in a helping profession.

Schedule and location: This is an in-person job based at Gateway’s shelter. The regular work schedule will be weekday daytime hours, with one later day (until 8 p.m.) each week. As a 24/7 agency, the advocate will be asked to work one holiday per year.

Substitute Domestic Violence Advocate

Gateway Domestic Violence Center is looking for individuals who would like extra part time work on nights and weekends. 

 

Requirements: At least two years of college or two years of related work experience. Able to independently make decisions. Must be able to pass Gateway’s background check process. Special consideration will be given to candidates who are bilingual and speak English and Spanish and to those with a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

 

Schedule:

Shifts are generally available on weeknights from 4 p.m. – 8 a.m. or anytime on the weekends. Sleeping overnight is permitted if the advocate is able to remain responsive and answer crisis calls.

 

Duties: Answer crisis hotline calls, provide emotional support for residents, maintain a safe facility, and other duties.

 

Salary and Benefits: $15/hour. 34 hours of paid training is required before the advocate will work independently.
