Flowery Branch outreach office to open March 1
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Gateway Domestic Violence Center has been providing shelter support and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic abuse since 1982. On March 1 the nonprofit will open an outreach office in Flowery Branch to make its services more accessible to residents in Braselton, Oakwood, Flowery Branch and other areas in southern Hall County.
“Hall County, specifically the southern part of the county, continues to experience tremendous population growth, and that also has been reflected in the demand for Gateway’s services,” said Executive Director Jessica Butler. “By opening an outreach office in South Hall, we hope to remove a barrier for those who may need our services but have trouble getting to Gainesville on a regular basis.”
The new outreach office will provide individual appointments for emotional support, assist survivors with safety planning and help survivors identify and access any community resources (housing, transportation, employment, childcare, etc.) they may need. Services are available in English and Spanish.
Due to safety concerns, the office’s exact location is not being disclosed at this time.
“At this point, we are not publishing the location,” Butler said. “We’ve always operated our primary location, which includes our safe house, in a confidential location.”
The staff on Gateway’s 24/7/365 hotline will be scheduling appointments for the South Hall office and can be reached at 770-536-5860.
Gateway’s primary location in Gainesville offers the following services:
- 24/7 hotline.
- Adult support groups are offered weekly in English and Spanish. Groups include “Women seeking change,” Life Skills, Parenting and Art therapy.
- Support groups for children ages 4-18 are offered during adult groups. Childcare is available for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old.
- Emergency shelter.
- Transitional housing.
- Assistance requesting Temporary Protective Orders.
- Individual counseling and support for women and children.
